Italy's cloud and cybersecurity voucher: what it covers
From 10 November 2026, Italian SMEs and freelancers can claim a 50% grant, up to EUR 20,000, for cloud and security. Only listed suppliers count, and I'm not one: I help you work out what you need and connect what you buy to the rest.

What the voucher offers
The Italian enterprise ministry (MIMIT) has set aside EUR 150 million, about 71 million of it for southern regions. Invitalia runs the scheme.
- a 50% grant, up to EUR 20,000, on minimum spending of EUR 4,000;
- open to SMEs and self-employed workers with an internet contract of at least 30 Mbps download;
- online form from 20 October 2026, submission from 12:00 on 10 November 2026 to 12:00 on 20 January 2027;
- applications are handled in order of arrival until funds run out;
- it's de minimis aid, so if you've had other aid, check your ceiling.
You need SPID, CNS or CIE, a digital signature and certified email (PEC). One trade guide also mentions catastrophe insurance, so ask your accountant.
What you can buy
- security hardware: firewalls, secure routers and switches, intrusion prevention;
- security software: antivirus, encryption, monitoring, vulnerability management;
- IaaS and PaaS cloud: virtual machines, storage, backup, databases;
- SaaS cloud: business software, CRM, accounting, CMS, e-commerce;
- configuration, monitoring and support, up to 30% of the plan.
Training is excluded.
The most common mistake
The biggest risk is buying a 24-month subscription because the grant pays half, then finding it won't talk to your business software or your data can't be taken out. After two years the voucher is gone and the fee is all yours.
Before signing, ask the supplier: can I export my data, and in what format? Is there an API to connect it to the rest? Who does the migration, and is it included? What does it cost from year three?
What I can do
I work outside the voucher, so I've no interest in selling you a product:
- I inventory servers, websites and programs, which also helps show the purchase is new;
- I go through the quote with you and tell you what's missing on the technical side;
- I move data from the old program to the new one;
- I connect the service you bought to your business software or online shop.
What I don't do
I don't file the application and I'm not a grants consultant. This page summarises the MIMIT and Invitalia pages and the decree of 4 August 2026, as read on 31 October 2026. The decree and the official FAQ are the reference.
Frequently asked questions
Can you invoice under the voucher?
No. The voucher only pays for purchases from suppliers on the ministry's list, closed to new entries on 27 May 2026, and I'm not on it. My work is paid separately and isn't covered.
Can I rebuild my website or business software with it?
Custom development isn't among the items. SaaS services such as ERP, CRM, accounting, CMS and e-commerce are, if sold by a listed supplier. For websites look at regional and chamber grants, and check their exclusions.
I already have a firewall and antivirus. Can I renew them?
Solutions have to be additional to, or more advanced than, what you already use, so an identical renewal won't do. You need a clear list of what you have today.
How long do I have to spend it?
12 months from the award for direct purchases, at least 24 months of contract for subscriptions. You can combine them. Only spending after the application counts.
