Custom business web apps
Orders, stock, jobs, invoices, shifts. The software follows your company's rules, runs in the browser, in the office and on the road, and changes when you do.
When it makes sense
It usually starts with a spreadsheet that has grown too big, or with off-the-shelf software that makes you work its way. The CRM I use for my own business replaced a spreadsheet with 18 tabs.
Custom software makes sense when the rules are yours: a price list with three prices for every variant, a quote where the margin only shows in the office, price files arriving every day from every shop. If standard invoicing software like everyone else's is enough for you, buy that: it costs less.
What it can do
Whatever you need. The business apps I have built include, for example:
- quotes put together line by line, with markup and discount, and a PDF ready to send;
- products with size and colour variants, and supplier price lists imported from Excel with a preview;
- Italian e-invoices read from fatturapa.com with their SDI status, and payments matched from the bank statement;
- files arriving over FTP, checked and transformed by rules before they go on to another system;
- an email alert when an overnight job gets stuck;
- connections to WooCommerce, eBay and Vinted.
In the browser, on phones too
It runs in any browser, with nothing to install on the office computers. The same apps install on a phone as a PWA; the gokalex CRM also has a page for when there is no signal.
How it's built
PHP 8 with MySQL or MariaDB. SitePing is built on Laravel 13. The Dracartys CRM is plain PHP with no framework, made for ordinary cPanel hosting: you upload it and it works, and the database updates itself.
If you don't have a server, I set one up and look after it: see Servers and hosting. If one day you want to move to another provider, I give you the code and the database.
Work of this kind
- CRM Dracartys: quotes, variants and price lists for a company that personalises products.
- AREAVISION: the system between the shops and the electronic shelf label cloud.
- CRM gokalex: invoices, payments and renewals for my own business.
We start by looking at how you work today: spreadsheets, handovers, exceptions. The next steps are in Process.
Problems I often solve
Your spreadsheet has turned into your business software
The file with customers, orders or stock that only one person knows how to use, with ten versions in the shared folder. I turn it into a web app that follows the same rules and that several people can use at once.
Business software you own, with no per-user subscription
Subscription software costs more for every person you add, your data sits on someone else's server, and changing provider means starting over. Custom business software is yours, code and database included.
Field service software with the job sheet on the phone
Technicians fill in job sheets by hand, the office types them up at the end of the week and the invoice goes out later still. With an app on the phone, the technician sees the day's jobs and closes each one with the customer signing on screen: the office gets it ready to invoice.
Custom quoting software, with a margin only you can see
A new quote starts as a copy of the last one in Word, prices come from the supplier's price list and the margin gets worked out separately, if at all. In custom software the quote is built line by line from your own products, and the PDF comes out in your own design.
Custom order and inventory software, in the cloud
Orders arrive by email, by phone and from the website, stock lives in a spreadsheet updated whenever someone remembers, and the supplier order goes out once the item has already run out. Custom software keeps customer orders, supplier orders and stock levels in the same data.
Job tracking software: hours, materials and margin for every job
You know how much you invoiced on a job. How much it cost you is another matter. Job tracking software collects hours, materials and expenses while the work is under way, and shows the margin before the job is closed.
Deadline and renewal tracking, with reminders by email and in your calendar
Contracts, certificates, training, inspections, customer subscriptions: every missed date costs a fine or a customer. Custom software keeps every date in one place, sends reminders in advance and shows what is due this month.
Planned maintenance software for equipment, boilers and machinery
Yearly or six-monthly maintenance lives in a diary, and when a customer calls nobody remembers what was done last time on their equipment. Custom software keeps the history of every unit and builds the schedule of upcoming visits by itself.
A custom CRM for teams still selling from a spreadsheet
Customers in a spreadsheet, deals in email threads, reminders on sticky notes. A CRM built on your rules keeps it all on one page per customer, and the whole sales team uses it at once.
How much does custom business software cost?
A handful of things set the price: how many parts the software has, which other programs it must talk to, where the data comes from. Here is how I work it out, why you won't find figures on this site, and how to start without spending anything.
Pay transparency in Italy: data, reports and job ads
Decree 96/2026 has applied since 7 June 2026: no questions about past salary, pay in job ads and, from 100 employees, the pay gap report. I work out the indicators from payroll data and fix the application form on your site.
Swiss equal pay analysis with Logib: the data, ready to load
In Switzerland, employers with 100 or more staff must run an equal pay analysis and have it verified. Logib is free, and the work is in the data sheet. I merge payroll, job and contract data so the sheet can be rebuilt with the same rules each time.
Italy's Double Transition voucher: business software yes, websites no
This Chamber of Commerce voucher pays 50% to 70% of business software, CRM, AI and security, but excludes websites and SEO. Rules and dates change by Chamber: I help you write a project that fits yours.
Italy's start-up grants: website, app and software for new businesses
If you're opening a business with Italy's Autoimpiego Centro-Nord or Resto al Sud 2.0, software, apps and a promotional website can go in the spending plan, and in the Centre-North 20% digital spending can add EUR 10,000 to the voucher.
Nuova Sabatini for software: when it's worth it
Italy's Nuova Sabatini also covers software and digital technology, from EUR 20,000, with a grant towards the interest on a loan. It isn't a call with a deadline: you need a large enough project and a bank.
Piedmont business digitalisation: Line A stays open
Piedmont's voucher closed in six hours, but Finpiemonte's Line A is open until October 2028: interest-free loans and grants for projects from EUR 50,000. It covers ERP, CRM, security and e-commerce, if the project hangs together.
Italian digitalisation grants 2027: be ready when the window opens
Piedmont's voucher closed in six hours and Milan's ran out of funds. These calls come back, but they're won before opening: a written project, a quote with the right items, signature and certified email ready.
