Nuova Sabatini for software: when it's worth it

Italy's Nuova Sabatini also covers software and digital technology, from EUR 20,000, with a grant towards the interest on a loan. It isn't a call with a deadline: you need a large enough project and a bank.

How it works

A micro, small or medium company takes a bank loan or lease to buy new capital goods. The ministry pays a grant covering part of the interest.

  • a loan from EUR 20,000 to 4 million;
  • grant worked out on a 5-year loan: 2.75% for ordinary investments, 3.575% for 4.0 and green ones;
  • hardware, software and digital technology are included;
  • land, buildings, used goods, advance payments and assets under construction are out;
  • financial and insurance sectors are excluded.

The 2026 budget law added EUR 650 million: 200 for 2026 and 450 for 2027. Applications are first come, first served: on 14 October 2026 MIMIT listed EUR 1.14 billion available.

When it's worth it

The Sabatini makes sense when you have to invest tens of thousands of euros anyway and need the bank to spread it over several years. A website or small program won't reach the EUR 20,000 minimum loan, and a Chamber voucher fits better: see the Double Transition voucher.

It can help with custom business software replacing spreadsheets and old programs, or with old software to rebuild along with its server.

What I prepare

Banks and accountants work better with a precise document. I prepare the analysis of what the program will do, a quote split into items and the milestones. I state who owns the code, so it's clear you're buying an asset and not a service. If you ask for the code, it's yours.

What I don't do

I don't file the application or say whether your investment qualifies: that's for your bank, accountant and the ministry. This page summarises the MIMIT pages, including the notice of 24 March 2026 on the new funding, and the Incentivi catalogue entry, as read on 31 October 2026. The circular and FAQ are the reference.

Frequently asked questions

How much do you really get?

The grant equals the interest on a five-year loan worked out at 2.75%, or 3.575% for 4.0 and green investments. It's real money, but far less than a 50% voucher. Your accountant can calculate it on your amount.

Does custom business software count?

The scheme covers software and digital technology, as long as the asset is new, standalone and tied to the business. Your bank or accountant has to confirm how software developed for you is treated. For the 4.0 rate, it must be in annex 6/B of the circular.

Can I pay for development in stages?

It depends on how the deal is built. Advance payments and assets under construction are excluded, so agree milestones with your bank and accountant before signing.

Can I combine it with other incentives?

Trade sources say it can be combined with the Italian super-depreciation. Your accountant should check the exact rules.
