Website maintenance

Updates, backups and a check every few minutes that the site is up, with SitePing, the monitoring service I wrote.

What's included

  • every week I update WordPress or Joomla, the theme and the plugins, and test the site after the update;
  • I back up the site every day, and at least once every six months I restore a backup as a test;
  • I watch the site with SitePing and step in when something breaks;
  • I let you know if WordPress, Joomla or a plugin stops getting security fixes, and what I'd do about it.

With SitePing

SitePing is the monitoring service I wrote. It checks every 1 or 5 minutes that the site responds, and once a day the SSL certificate, domain expiry, DNS records and blacklists. Inside the site it sees admin logins, plugins installed or deactivated, and files that differ from the official version. Usually, when something breaks, I know before you do.

If the site goes down at night

With 24/7 cover I get it back up at any hour. On my servers, maintenance is the advanced hosting plan; the plans and the 24/7 cover are explained in Servers and hosting.
